Mr. John Edward Sexton, age 85 of North Main Street, Denton and formerly of the Fair Grove Community, Thomasville, NC died Monday, January 9 at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 13 at Fair Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 4:00 PM Friday at Central United Methodist Church in Denton. Rev. Benny Clodfelter and Jane Baity will officiate at the services. The family will see friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times will be at the residence on N. Main Street. Mr. Sexton was born June 10, 1926 in Davidson County to Daniel Moses Sexton and Nannie Bell Hill Sexton. He was a graduate of Denton High School, a veteran of the U S Navy. He was a former member of Fair Grove United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Choir. He joined Central United Methodist Church when he and his wife moved to Denton. He was a member and past president of the Fair Grove Lions Club and was employed as a salesman with Brown, Rogers, Dixon Company. He was preceded in death by his parents and by brothers, Myron Wade Sexton, H. Ames Sexton and Neal Sexton. He is survived by his wife, Johnsie Harris Sexton of the home,; sons John Thomas Sexton and wife Celia of Claremont, and Dalton Stewart Sexton and wife Swannee of Denton; daughter Sarah Sexton Morris and husband Andy of Denton; grandchildren Meredith Sexton, Laura Sexton, Dan Sexton and Gracie Morris; sisters Jean Sexton Foust of Greensboro, Betty Sue Sexton Brown of Houston, Texas and Patsey Sexton May of Richmond, Va.
