Mr. John Haven Lomax, Jr., age 88, of Denton died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 following an extended illness. The funeral service for Mr. Lomax will be 3:00 pm Friday, February 18 at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Benny Clodfelter officiating. Burial will follow in the Denton Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home. A lifelong resident of Denton, Mr. Lomax was born October 30, 1922 to John Haven Lomax, Sr. and Cora Kinney Lomax. A graduate of Denton School, he served in the U. S. Army during World War II under General Patton’s 3rd Army in Europe. He was a lifetime member of Central United Methodist Church were he was very active in many church committees and functions. He worked for Thermo Products for 30 years as Southeast Sales Manager and Vice President of the company. He was a 50 year member of both the Denton Lodge #404 AF & AM and the Denton Lions Club and was a past member of the Davidson County Shrine Club. He was also a former member of the Denton Volunteer Fire Department where he had served as Chief. He was preceded in death by brothers, Blanton Lomax and Grayson Lomax and sister, Mary Everhart. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Geraldine “Jerrie” Johnson Lomax of the home, one daughter, Marcia Everhart and husband Jerry of Concord, one son, John Haven Lomax, III and wife Gwen of Charlotte, six grandchildren, Doug Everhart, Cindy Conner, Stephanie Lomax, Haven Lomax, Brad Lomax and Paige Braswell and six great-grandchildren.
