John Jarvis

John Lee Jarvis, Sr, 85 of High Rock Drive, Denton, died Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Friday at Lick Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Hulon Pait officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Jarvis was born February 8, 1927 in Davidson County, the son of William Andrew and Freda Taylor Jarvis. He was a supervisor with the Henry Link plant for over 40 years. He was a member at Lick Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School Director, a member of the choir, a deacon and a trustee. He was a Blue Ribbon Fiddle player, having played with many Bluegrass musical groups, a WWII army veteran and was the unofficial “Mayor of High Rock”. Nearly 63 years ago on December 24, 1949 he married Jean Rogers who survives of the home. He is also survived by a son, John Jarvis, Jr and wife Nita of Thomasville; 2 daughters, Susan Warren and husband Glenn, Jr. of Denton and LuAnne Askew and husband Scott of Denton; a sister, Billie J. Pinner and husband Richard of Charlotte; 6 grandchildren, Stephanie Ramon and husband Ismael, Melissa Cox and husband Justin, Jonathon Jarvis, Glenn Warren III, Levi Askew and Nate Askew; 2 Great-grandchildren, Hailey Jean Cox and Eliott Lee Ramon. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence on High Rock Drive. Memorials may be made to Lick Creek Baptist Church, 2574 Lick Creek Church Rd., Denton NC 27239 or to the Lexington Dialysis Center, ATTN: Ms. Tarsha Hall, 233 Anna Lewis Drive, Lexington NC 27292 in Memory of John Jarvis. He was a special “Poppy” to grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored him.
