Mr. John F. Hall, Jr. (USN-Ret.) Mt. Gilead, NC- John Farley Hall, Jr., (Big John) (USN-Ret.), of River Rd., Mt. Gilead, entered into rest Sunday, September 20, 2015 at CMC Northeast in Concord, with his family and close friends at his side. His presence on this Earth will be honored at his graveside service with Full Military Honors at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Flint Hill Christian Church in Biscoe with Rev. Don McCaskill officiating. He was born January 14, 1938 in Montgomery County, the son of John F. and Edith McLeod Hall. He had a full life and lived it always surrounding himself with friends and family. John enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955 and served for twenty-seven years on several tours of duty. Upon discharge, John enjoyed a full life with a wide variety of activities. He enjoyed mostly exploring the countryside of North Carolina and hunting antiques on his many scavenger hunts. He had a passion for sharing knowledge with anyone who sought his advice. He was known in the area for being the man to turn to when it came to anything automotive, especially Fords. John was known for his love of antique cars and his unique ability to be able to fix anything broken. Those who knew him know that he was true to that description. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Joey Gross. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyliss D. Hall of the home; son, John David Hall (Julia Beth) of Mt. Gilead; 3 daughters, Donna H. Gordon (Kirk) of Snead’s Ferry, Julie Broughton (Jim) of Salisbury and Mary Williams (Rick) of Salisbury; 2 brothers, Robert Spence Hall of Foxfire Village, Pinehurst and Glenn Hall (Millie) of Lynchburg, VA; 2 sisters, Peggy M. Wise of Columbia, SC and Carolyn Ashburn of Wadeville; 9 grandchildren, Scott Williams, Taylor Overcash (Gene), Alex Gordon, Lars Gordon, Dakota Davis, Sean Gross, Robert Broughton, Alex Broughton and Alexis Broughton; 3 Great-grandchildren, Riley Overcash, Wyatt Overcash and Darcy Overcash. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends in the church following the graveside services.
