Joann Collins

JoAnn Sims Collins, age 91, of Charlotte. NC died Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Best of Care in Kannapolis, NC.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Barrow Community Church in Auburn, Georgia.  Burial will follow in the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Auburn, Georgia.

Mrs. Collins was born May 22, 1932 in Gwinnett, County, Georgia to Otis Sims and V Pharr Sims.  She graduated Salutatorian of her 1949 High School Class.  She graduated from UNC Charlotte in 1977 and had worked as an accountant for George Scott and Associates for twenty years.

She was an active member of Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte and active in her UM Women Circle and the Betty Feezor Sunday School Class.  She was treasurer of the Pilot Club in Charlotte for 25 years and delivered Friendship trays to the elderly.

JoAnn loved spending time with family relatives and friends at the ‘Cabin” on Lake Tillery and always took pride in her Georgia roots.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years John Collins her parents and a sister Sue Smith.

She is survived by her sons, John Collins and Joe Collins and wife Lynne all of Charlotte, grandchildren, Elizabeth Watson and husband Rob, Garrett Collins and wife Samantha, Wil Collins and wife Hayley; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Jean Smith and Kathy Hall and husband Joe; a brother, Sam Sims; brother in law Kenon Smith.
