James Ray “Jim” McCracken, age 81, of Deerfield Circle, Troy died Saturday, August 11, 2012 in Sevierville, Tennessee. A Memorial Service will be 2:00 PM Friday, August 17, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Troy, with Rev. Don Davis, Dr. James Gibson and Dr. Phil McRae officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Jim was born on August 17, 1930 in Moore County, the son of John M. and Annie Hall McCracken. He was retired after 24 years from the United States Air Force, with the rank of Master Sergeant; retired from the US Post Office after 16 years and from Briggs Funeral Homes after 14 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the American Legion, a member of the NCO Association and The Retired Enlisted Association and he was a square dance caller and teacher for over 30 years. He graduated from West End High School and from UNC Pembroke. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, John Marshall McCracken, Robert Neal McCracken and Hubert Louis McCracken and 4 sisters, Robena Hartsell, Estelle Greene, Connie Little and Willie Pusser. He is survived by his wife, Wanda J. McCracken, 2 sons, John R. McCracken of Denver, CO and Richard Thomas of Carthage; 2 daughters, Regina M. Williamson and husband Greg of Steeds and Margaret M. Hill and husband Marty of Fayetteville; a sister, Winnie Dorn of Troy; 5 Grandchildren, Trevor Wilson, Devan Williamson, Kevin Williamson, Colby Thomas and Katie Hill and many nieces. The family will receive friends after the service at the church and after 6 PM Friday at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Jim’s Grandchildren’s educational fund may be made to: Regina Williamson Special Account, SECU, PO Box 691, Troy NC 27371.
