Jewel Rachel Hoover McDowell, 90, of Asheboro, died Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral Service will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Hoover’s Grove Wesleyan Church, Jackson Creek Rd., Denton NC, with Rev. Alvin Wooters and Rev. Edwin Chriscoe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born in Randolph County on October 5, 1927, she was the second child of William Hoover and Ada Mae Kearns Hoover. At the age of 16, she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She was a member of Hoover’s Grove Wesleyan Church and she loved the Lord and served Him faithfully, sharing her faith in Jesus with those she met. She married Paul T. McDowell on March 16, 1946, who preceded her in death on May 8, 1992. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Cletus Parker; brothers, Grady Hoover, Albert Hoover, and Worth Hoover; infant son, Thomas McDowell, and great-grandson, Wesley Thomas Compton. She is survived by her son, Wayne McDowell and wife Laurenda of Asheboro; grandson, Scott McDowell and wife Jena of Blackstone VA, granddaughters, Suzanne Compton and husband Matt of Newnan GA and Lauren Stultz and husband Justin of Kernersville; great-grandchildren, Alexander Stultz, Felix Stultz, Annalise McDowell, Michaela Compton, and Madelyn Compton; sister-in-law, Lois Hoover; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
