Jerry Winfred Harris, aged 91, of Denton, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Hinkle Hospice House. Born in Stoneburg, TX, on September 18, 1933, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Earl Harris and the late Faye Lyons Harris.
Jerry proudly served in the United States Army and later dedicated his career to the engineering department for the State of Texas Highway division. After retirement, he and his cherished wife, Darlene, moved to Denton, NC, where they have enjoyed the past 20 years together. Jerry was a devoted member of the Denton Wesleyan Church and found joy in playing golf, racing, fishing, and building remote control airplanes.
Jerry leaves behind a loving family, including his wife of 73 years, Darlene R. Harris; his son, Scott Harris and wife Sandra; his daughter, Vicki Sewell and husband Chuck; and his sister, Carol Morton. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Chris Jennings and wife Kara, Michael Harris, Brian Harris and wife Mona, Angela Harris, Josh Harris and wife Callie, Jason Lee, Nathan Lee, and Jeremy Yerdon. Jerry was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Brayden, Bryanna, Jazlynn, Kaylei, Jaxson, Landon, and Gaven.
A funeral service to honor Jerry's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 20, at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Charlie Collins. Interment with military honors will take place at 2:30 PM on Thursday, July 24, at Salisbury National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton.
