Jean Tysinger Buzhardt

Betty “Jean” Tysinger Buzhardt of Lexington, lovingly known by many as Nana, passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2025, after a sudden illness.

Jean was born in Randolph County, NC on December 3, 1934, the daughter of Glenn Tysinger and Valeria Sturdivant Tysinger. She married Ronald E. Buzhardt, Jr. on July 18, 1953, spending 56 years together. In her day as a Denton Red Raider, she was known for her skill on the basketball court, being recognized as a Davidson County All Star. She is preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Eugenia Tysinger, her parents, and a grandson, Joshua Glenn Snell.


Jean is survived by a son Dr. Scott Buzhardt and his wife Dr. Lynn Buzhardt of Zachary, LA, two daughters, Glenda Buzhardt of Winston-Salem and Amy Buzhardt Medlin, and her husband Barry Medlin of Lexington. Also surviving are grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Buzhardt and wife Dr. Sarah Buzhardt, Dr. Paul Buzhardt and wife Mary-Katherine Buzhardt, Jonathan Dobey, Tyler Medlin, Bayli Medlin Cook and husband Dakota Cook. She has six great-grandchildren, Luke Buzhardt, Olivia Buzhardt, Abigail Buzhardt, Emma Buzhardt, Michael Buzhardt, and Madeline Buzhardt, as well as two sisters, Frances Tysinger Robinson of Atlanta, GA, and Joanne Tysinger Lanning of Lexington.


The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton on Monday, May 12, 2025. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at First Global Methodist Church in Denton at 11:00 am followed by burial service at Mt. View Memorial Gardens.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Davidson County, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
