J.D. Wood

Mr. J.D. Wood, 83, of Avenue I Lexington, NC passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at his residence. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Floyd Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. James Honeycutt presiding. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence. Mr. Wood was born March 15, 1934 in Wilkes County to Barney Roscoe Wood and to Myrtle Helen Durham Wood. He was a member of Deep Water Baptist Church and truck driver in the logging industry. He was preceded in death by brothers, Charlie Roscoe Wood, Tommy Hardin Wood, and Dennis Junior Wood; sisters, Peggy Lou Cartrette, Gloria Jean Holbrook, and Flora Mae Holbrook; brother-in-law, Floyd Wood. He is survived by wife, Barbara Sue Wood Wood of the home, son, Jeff Wood of Lexington; grandson, Jeffery Dale Wood; step-daughter, Donna Pressley (Glenn) of Lexington; sisters, Nancy Ann Shipton of Denton and Nora Everhart of Lexington; brother-in-laws, Robert Wood (Brenda), Doug Wood (Joyce), Leon Wood (Billie), Wayne Wood (Carolyn); nephews, Scott, Robbie, Bo and Cody Wood and Michael Kerik; nieces, Debbie Cockerham and Tiffany Everhart.
