Mr. Ja Van McDowell, age 84 of Floyd Street, Denton, NC died Thursday, May 15 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 18 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel conducted by Rev. Johnny Albertson. Burial with Military honors will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. The family will see friends from 1:00 to 2:30 PM Sunday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times will be at the residence on Floyd Street. Mr. McDowell was born February 11, 1930 in Davidson County to Levi McDowell and Minnie Floyd McDowell. He was a retired employee of Thomasville Furniture Industries and a member of The Original Covenant Church of God on Yates Road. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a number of Brothers and Sisters. He is survived by his wife, Alma (Polly) Vanhoy McDowell of the home; daughters Phyllis McDowell of Denton, Rita Lineberry and husband Jerry of Thomasville and Amy McDowell of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren Michael and Phillip Lineberry. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292. .
