James Wesley Whitley

James Wesley Whitley, 96, of Whiskey Rd., Candor, died Saturday, December 15, 2018 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.  Funeral Service will be 3:00 PM Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Macedonia Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Matthew Baker officiating.  Burial will follow in the Candor Cemetery.   Born May 25, 1922 in Richmond County, he was the son of Lovie and Maggie Blake Whitley.  He was a member of Macedonia Presbyterian Church, a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy and a deliveryman. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 73 years, Jessie Saunders Whitley, in 2015.   He is survived by a son, Larry Whitley and wife Peggy of Sanford; a daughter, Jane Whitley of Troy; 2 sisters, Lois Richardson of Carthage and Mamie Bennett of Jackson Springs; 3 grandchildren, Terri Whitley, Christy Pickens, and Jamie Maynor; 5 great-grandchildren, Kellam Maynor, Lauren Pickens, Allie Eyers, Erin Pickens, and Casey Eyers.   The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM Prior to the service Tuesday at Macedonia Presbyterian Church.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macedonia Presbyterian Church, PO Box 340, Candor NC  27229.   Briggs-Candor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
