James Carey Spoon

March 1, 1949 — November 14, 2023

James Carey Spoon, III, of Newsom Lane, Denton, died Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.  Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Summerville Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Motley, Rev. Thomas Frizzell, and Rev. Flynn Richardson officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside services.

Born in Davidson County on March 1, 1949, he was the son of James C. Spoon, Jr. and Tura Davis Spoon.  He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Vietnam.  He was a member of Summerville Baptist Church and had retired from Thomas Bus Industries.  James loved attending the Southeast Threshers Reunion.  The family wishes to extend special thanks to Davidson County Hospice, his nurses Elonna and Alana, and to the Veteran’s Administration for all they did during his illness.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Cranford Spoon of the home, 2 sons, Chad Spoon (Angie) of Denton and Tony Spoon (Stephanie) of Clemmons; sister, Brenda Floyd (Neil) of Denton; brother, Rick Spoon of Denton; 2 grandchildren, Michael Pierce and Kaylin Spoon; numerous nieces and nephews and his dog Dixie.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Davidson County Hospice, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington NC  27292 or to Summerville Baptist Church Brotherhood fund, 3134 Summerville Church Rd., Denton NC  27239.

Briggs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
