James York Smith

Mr. James York Smith, 76, of Spartan Dr. Lexington, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 Monday, Jan. 18 at Summerville Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Thomas Frizzell and Rev. Flynn Richardson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In accordance with Covid-19 restrictions face coverings are required and practicing of social distancing.

Mr. Smith will lie in state for public viewing on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton.

James was born in Pike County, Kentucky on May 25, 1944 to App Smith and Jennie S. Smith. He worked in maintenance at Councill Craftsman Furniture for 24 years and was a member of Summerville Baptist Church. in addition to his parents James was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Diane Spencer; by brothers, Francis J. Smith, Leonard H. Smith, and Darrell Ray Smith; sisters, Lois Smith, Wanda Smith, and Clemma Rotilio.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Gallimore Smith of the home; son, James Ray Smith (Debra) of KY,  daughter, Lisa Carol Prevost (Perry) of Lexington; step-sons, Neil Snider (Janice), Phillip Brian Snider (Linda), and Alan Lee Snider; step-daughter, Karen Renee Queen (Bruce); sisters, Wilma Carol Achatz of FL and Karen Scott of TN; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
