James Russell, Jr.

March 17, 1965 — May 19, 2025

James Austin Russell Jr., of Denton, North Carolina, passed away on May 19, 2025, at the age of 60. He was born on March 17, 1965 and was known affectionately as "Jimmy" to many. James was a dedicated mechanic for over 30 years at Energy United. In his retirement, he found joy in working with the Denton Farmpark. Beyond his profession and passion, James was a cornerstone of his family and community. He was the coach on and off the field, the cook at gatherings, the jokester who brought laughter, and a loyal friend to many. Most importantly, he was a loving father to his three children.


James's legacy continues through his beloved wife, Delores; his children, David Austin Russell, James Douglas "Doug" Russell (his wife Samantha), and Heather Renee Russell. His three cherished grandchildren: Braxton, Tenneson, and Samson. He is also survived by his mother, Ann; his sisters, Sheila and Kimberly; and his brother, Max.


The Russell family will hold visitation from 6-8 pm on Thursday, May 22nd at Briggs Funeral Home, 103 E Salisbury St,  Denton, NC 27239. The service and burial for friends and family will be held at 2 pm, Friday, May 23rd, at Chapel Hill Methodist Church.


Time spent with James was always cherished, and he will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. He was someone special that his family and community loved.
