Mr. James Melvin Martin, 83, of Garner St., Denton passed away on Monday, June 04, 2018 at High Point Regional Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday at Goodwill Christian Church conducted by Rev. Melvin Morton and Rev. Brian Workman. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Martin was born November 27, 1934 in Ontario County, New York to Howard J. Martin and Helen Schweickhard Martin. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and had worked as a Dairy Farmer, Construction worker, and a framer with Terrell Brothers Manufacturing. Mr. Martin enjoyed fishing, trapping, and coon hunting with his good friend Roy Latham of New Hope, other special interest were gardening and building something.
In addition to his parents Mr. Martin was also preceded in death by son, James “Jimmy” Martin; son-in-law, Mike Crowell; and brothers, Howard, John, Kenneth, and Bob.
He is survived by wife, Janell Hamilton Martin of the home; sons, Jeffery Martin (Faye) and Scott Martin (Celena) all of Denton; daughters, Kathie Crowell of Denton, Teresa Parker (Tim) of Lexington, Shelia Garner (Danny) of Denton, Karen Pierce (Gil) of Denton, and Pam Fee of Denton; grandchildren, Jennifer and Andrea Martin, Tara Kennedy, Emilie Little, Brendan Crowell, Brad and Holly Parker, Heidi Aldridge, Brittany Underwood, Samantha Marshall, Jason Martin, Landon Pierce, Casey Deel, Amber Bean, Brent Martin, and Cody and Danielle Fee; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Rogers (George) of New York and Alberta Meyers (Richard) of Florida.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home of Sheila Garner.
