James Irvin Elliott, age 74, passed away Monday, November 30, 2020 at Mountain Vista Health Park, Denton, NC where he was a resident since 2016. When you lose a parent, you’re an Orphan; When you lose a husband or wife, you’re a Widow or Widower; When you lose a child, well, there are no words for that; NOR is there a word for when you lose a brother or sister. When you lose someone close, someone who was bound to your soul, there’s a moment when tears come and not just the standard tears, where you cry and hug and then the funeral’s over and you go back to work thinking, I really need to make some changes and appreciate life more. NO, these are tears that sneak up on you, that catch you off guard and quickly land in your throat and chest and robbing your breath. These are genuine tears of sadness. He was born September 5, 1946 to Edgar and Allene Hughes Elliott. He is a graduate of Denton High School, Class of 1964. He is survived by his brother Wayne Elliott and wife Frances, sisters-in-law Sara and Melanie Elliott; son, James Todd and wife Mandi; grandchildren Kristina and Coltin and son, Joe and wife Cindy. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews who took great care of him during his lengthy battle with Cancer; Bill, David, Krista Elliott, Kim Elliott Palumbo-great niece Joan, and niece Andrea Elliott Walker, and sisters-in-law, Sara and Melanie Elliott. He is preceded in death of his parents, brothers Bobby, Jimmy, and Kenneth Elliott and niece Melanie Elliott Pegram. James worked many years for Rex Glover at the Park-In-Grill in Denton. After graduation from Denton High School, he worked for Aaron Crouse Dairy Farms delivering Borden Milk products around the Denton area. That was when everyone left their back doors unlocked and James would walk in and actually place their milk products in their ice box or refrigerators. AND, of course, he would most always find some goodies left on the kitchen table for his efforts. He was loved, not only by his own family, his friends, but also the Crouse Family, and his many route customers. When Christmas arrived, he was always showered with gifts from his customers. James was later drafted into the Army during the Vietnam Era and was stationed in Germany. Upon completing his enlistment, he returned to Denton. Not too many people know this, however, when James returned from his Army commitment in 1968, he discovered a young man, with a spouse and two children, had taken his job at Crouse Dairy Farms, a job he was promised he could return to upon his return from his Army service. Rather than accept his old job back upon his return, James opted to allow the young man to remain in his job at Crouse Dairy Farms. He went about seeking other employment. A truly honorable and noble act of kindness, but then, that was James Elliott. He moved from Denton to Charlotte, NC and went to work with Smith Westinghouse Appliances, before eventually obtaining employment with Eastern Airlines in Charlotte. During his tenure, he was transferred to Atlanta where he was employed with Eastern Airlines until the company went bankrupt several years later. He then worked at Continental Chemicals, Charlotte, NC; was later transferred to Greenville, SC then returned to the Charlotte Facility years later. He then moved into his new house in Dallas, NC. Continental Chemicals eventually merged with UNIVAR Chemicals. James was medically retired from UNIVAR in 2015. He was transferred to Mountain Vista Health Park in August 2016 after having a stroke March 2016. The Elliott family would like to thank the many friends that visited James at Mountain Vista Health Park before the COVID-19 Virus. The family also expresses their sincere gratitude for the amazing nurses and staff at Mountain Vista Health Park for the great care James received over the past four years. Also, thanks to Hospice of Randolph County for their passionate care over the past few weeks. Briggs Funeral Home in Denton is serving the Elliott family. Visitation will be on Saturday December 5, 2020 for family members only due to the COVID-19 Virus followed by a public graveside service at 2:00 pm for family and friends at the Mountain View Memorial Gardens with Rev.
