James Doby

Mr. James Leonard Doby age 72, of Piedmont School Rd., Denton passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016 at his residence. A funeral service will be held 5:00 pm Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel conducted by Rev. Claudie Harrison and Rev. Avery Varnadore. Interment will follow at Alleghany United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Doby was born May 1, 1944 in Davidson County to James Earlie Doby and Ruby Elizabeth Dorsett Doby. James was of the Baptist Faith and most recently attended Gravel Hill Baptist Church. He was a self-employed truck driver and heavy equipment operator. Surviving are wife, Phyllis Hogan Doby of the home; sons, Todd Doby (Wendy) of Denton and Terry Doby of China Grove; step daughter, Wendy Hedrick (Jerry) of San Antonio, TX; sister, Joyce Bell (Tommy) of Lexington; 6 grandchildren, Bradley James Doby, Zachary Dakota Doby, Samantha Faith Jebb, Michael Vincent Rothwell, Brandon Hedrick, and Dustin Hedrick; 2 nieces, Sherri Dry and Tammy Varnadore. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence.
