Mr. James Braddy Barefoot, Jr., age 86, of Denton died Sunday, November 18 at his home. Funeral service for Mr. Barefoot will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 21 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Kelly Creekmur and Rev. Mike McClellan officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home on Loftin Road. Mr. Barefoot was born June 27, 1926 in Cumberland County to James Braddy Barefoot, Sr. and Lella Tobitha Barefoot. He was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Navy and had worked at Burlington Industries. He was of the Presbyterian faith. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Barefoot on December 29, 2007 and by one brother Alfred Barefoot and one sister, Lorene Barefoot. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Clara Surratt Barefoot of the home, two sons, Robert Earl Barefoot and wife Missy and James Fletcher Barefoot and wife Reecia, all of Denton, grandchildren, Sammy Jermane and Kenny Jermane. He is also survived by his extended family, Pat and Ronnie Harker of Denton, Dana and Mark Floyd of Denton and Cristy and Shannon Morris and their children Allie and Lilly Floyd and Clay Morris, all of Denton and special friends, Ed and Alice Glover and Tony Harrison.
