Jack Phillips

Preacher Jack, 87, went to his heavenly home on April 29, 2023. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, pastor, evangelist and friend. Funeral Service will be 3:00 PM Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with Pastor Michael Free and Chris Phillips officiating.  Burial will follow in the Tabernacle Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was born Thomas Holland Phillips in Durham on January 23, 1936, the son of Owen and Virginia Hancock Phillips. He began his ministry as pastor of Candor Baptist Church in 1960, followed by Ebenezer Christian Church in Raleigh NC; Grace Chapel Christian Church in Sanford NC; and in 1976 when he founded Tabernacle Baptist Church in Candor NC, where he served for 25 years. He then served in itinerant ministry and pulpit supply for many churches in North Carolina. While at Tabernacle, he ran Living Water Youth Camp for many summers.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Patricia Hargett Phillips; son, Chris Phillips (Dawn); daughter, Sherri Free (Michael); seven grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria Edwards of Siler City; brother, Jerry Phillips of Siler City.

The Phillips Family will receive friends from 1:00-2:45 PM prior to the service on Thursday at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
