Hervey Yates

Mr. Hervey F. Yates, 91, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton. A graveside service will be held 3:00 pm Monday, Aug. 6 at Floral Garden Memorial Park in High Point conducted by Rev. Benny Clodfelter. Hervey was born October 8, 1926 in Lauren Hill in Scotland County, NC and grew up in that area. He married Marcella Stewart in June, 1949 and became father to James C. Stewart and David W. Stewart. He is survived by James C. Stewart (Jeanne) and David W. Stewart (Barbara), four grandsons, David W. Stewart, Jr. (Amy), James Carl Stewart, Jr. (Stacie), Steven W. Blevins (Debbie), and James Scott Blevins. He had 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella (Marcie) Wright Stewart Yates; a great grandchild; and 5 siblings, Bert Plummer, Ruth Gibson, Elizabeth Poole, Clarence Yates and Donald Yates. Hervey and Marcie resided in Denton for 34 years after Hervey retired from Union Carbide. They were members of Central United Methodist Church. Hervey also served as a lay minister to three other churches in the area. The family extends a special thanks to Mountain Vista Health Park for their excellent care and kindness.
