Helen Garner Yates

Helen Garner Yates, 79, of Denton, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022 at her residence.  Funeral Service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Brett Chappell and Rev. Stan Asher officiating.  Burial will follow in the Denton Town Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM prior to the service on Sunday at Briggs Funeral Home.

Born in Randolph County on June 11, 1943, she was the daughter of Reitzel and Zona Bisher Garner.  She was a graduate of Farmer High School, class of 1961.  She loved spending time with her family, traveling and working in her flower and vegetable gardens.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dianna Nelson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, John Yates of the home; son, Todd Surratt (Kelly) of Oak Island; daughter, Tammy Watson (Matt) of Denton; brothers, Reitzel Garner, Jr. and Lonnie Garner; sisters, Jeanette Ball and Cindy Hunt; grandchildren, Justin Surratt, Jadin Surratt, Alisia Hooper, and Hannah Watson; great-grandchildren, Gabe Burgess and Bryson Burgess.
