Helen Loftin

January 25, 1914 — August 31, 2021

Mrs. Helen Bisher Loftin, age 107, of Mountain Vista Health Park and formerly of School Street Denton died Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Mountain Vista Health Park.

Mrs. Loftin’s funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, September 5th at First United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Dennis Sheppard, Rev. James T (Chip) Webb and Rev. Sandy Young.  Interment will follow in the Denton Town Cemetery.

Mrs. Loftin’s body will remain at Briggs Funeral Home where the public may visit between 1:00 and 7:00 PM on Saturday, September 4th.  The family will not be present during these hours.  The family requests those attending to please wear a mask and to observe social distancing.

Mrs. Loftin was born January 25, 1914 in Randolph County to Chisolm Bisher and Mamie Morris Bisher.  She was a graduate of Denton High School and attended Greensboro College for Women (UNC-G)  graduating in 1935.  She earned her Masters Degree in Home Economics in 1957. She was a retired school teacher having taught 8 th grade and Home Economics at Denton School for 31 years.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church.   She was married to her childhood sweetheart  Clay Loftin who died September 25, 1994.  She was also preceded in death by brothers, Harold Bisher and Furman Bisher and sister Mary Misenheimer, by sons-in-law, Jimmie Nuckols, James Dobbins and Jerry Koontz and by a grandson, Chip Peacock.

The center of her life was her family, church and giving back through years of volunteer service.  She was an avid walker until past 100.  Her guide for life was sharing God’s love by example.  Her favorite bible verse, Phillippians 4:23 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

She is survived by daughters, Linda Peacock Dobbins and Judy Koontz  both of Denton and Nancy Nuckols Bean and husband Dr. William Bean of New London; grandchildren, Donna Briggs, Melody Tomter, Cindy Nuckols, Shayne Clifford and Joy Harman; 12 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Mountain Vista Health Park and care givers Betty Ann Pierce, Marjory Kohlman and Tenya Garr.  They all became her extended family who she dearly loved.
