Mr. Heber Boyd Newsom, 88, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at his home in Denton. Mr. Newsom had bequeathed his body to Bowman Gray School of Medicine for medical education. Honoring his request, the family will have a private memorial service at the home. Mr. Newsom was born on April 17, 1918 to the late Albert Lee and Tolora Aires Newsom in the Newsom Community. He was a WWII veteran and served as a Sergeant in the MP's. Mr. Newsom worked as a watchmaker in St. Louis, MO, Peoria and Lancaster, IL, in Salisbury, Denton and Troy, NC. As a business man, Mr. Newsom was involved in textile sales and owned Newsom's Seafood for 18 years in the Denton area. In 1975, he joined the sales force for Gift Box Corporation of America in New York, NY and was their leading salesman for many years. Mr. Newsom's survivors include his wife of 51 years, Joanne Thompson Newsom from Troy, NC of the home; daughters, Sherri Newsom Robbins and husband Guy of Charlotte, Monica Newsom Lomax and husband Kelly of Denton, Tammy Newsom Clarke and husband Jamie of Southern Pines; son, Gil Bryant Newsom and wife Kate of Asheboro. Mr. Newsom, "Poppie" has seven grandchildren, Hannah and Sarah Clarke, Stephan and Coco Lomax, Ezekiel, Alexis, and Madeline Newsom. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 159 Klopman Mill Road, Denton, NC 27239 or to Hospice of Davidson County, PO Box 1941, Lexington, NC 27292.
