George Powell

Mt. Gilead-George Powell Lowge George Powell, 79, of Hwy 109 South, Mt. Gilead, died Monday, June 23, 2008 in Albemarle. A memorial service will be held at a later date. A native of Chester, SC, Mr. Powell was born Jan. 22, 1929, the son of Lowge and Sallie McMickins Powell. He was a retired laborer from the Norfolk and Southern Railway. He is survived by his wife, Lois Goins Powell of the home; a daughter, Faye Hulsey of Robbins; a son, Greg Needham of Robbins; 3 sisters, Lillian McFadden of Washington, DC, Georgia Owens and Shirley Patten, both of Maryland; a brother, Bootie Powell of Washington, DC; 8 Grandchildren; 6 Great-grandchildren. Briggs-Candor Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
