George Herbert Myers

May 17, 1942 — May 28, 2017

George H. Myers of Candor, NC went home to be with his Heavenly Father early Sunday morning, May 28th after a lingering illness. He was born May 17, 1942 in Wilmington, NC to Herbert Webb and Katie Sugg Myers, the oldest of their five children. After the end of WWII, the family moved to Candor. George was educated in Montgomery County schools and graduated with the class of 1960. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1964 from Appalachian State University. George spent over 20 years in the hospitality industry as a hotel controller, which gave him many opportunities to travel the United States. After returning to Candor, he was corporate controller of Dan Maples Design in Pinehurst. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by two brothers, John Walton and James Lester Myers. He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Campbell Myers , two children; Gary Myers (Sandra) of Elkin, NC and Beth Herron (Scott) of Chapin, SC, sisters Sadie Katherine Young of Italy and Rebecca Willis of Olanta, SC. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Ashley, Amanda, Megan, Michael, and Andrew, several nephews and his special niece, Layla Myers Mabe. He also left behind his two furry four-legged “babies”, Miss Pepper and Little Bit, whom he adored. A memorial grave-side service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 2nd in the Candor Cemetery with the Reverend David Heath. Memorials in his memory may be made to the Montgomery County Humane Society in care of Sally Morris, 1150 Okeewemee Rd, Troy, NC or to the charity of one’s choice. The family will receive friends at the home. The family would like to thank Carolina HealthCare of Troy and Autumn Care of Biscoe for their wonderful care during his illness. Briggs-Candor Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
