George Pershing Loflin, 89, of VA Medical Center in Salibury, and formerly of New London died Friday August 17, 2007 at the VA Medical Center. Graveside Services will 3:00 PM Sunday, August 19, 2007 at Mountain View Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Frank Hoover and military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Mr. Loflen was born May 7, 1918 in Surry County to Zebula Vance and Lula Shinalt Loflen. He was a retired Watchmaker. Mr. Loflen was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of Company C 142nd Infantry Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat I Infantry Badge, EAME Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Bronze Arrowhead American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the Silver Star. He was preceded in death by his wife Frances Loflen in 1995, a step-son, Billy E. Laney and 7 brothers and 1 sister. Survivors include a Step-daughter in law Brenda Prevette Laney of Colfax, brother Bruce Loflen and wife Hallie of Oakridge, Tenn.
