James Garland Adams, 93, of Frank Rd., Denton, NC passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Hinkle Hospice House. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 22 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Donnie Lunsford officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Garland was born July 6, 1930, in Guilford County, NC the son of James Benjamin Adams and Maebell Vaughn Adams. As a veteran of the United States Army Garland served his country in the Korean War. He had worked in the furniture industry as a machine operator but was more known for his work as a mechanic. Garland attended New Grace Baptist Church in Thomasville. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Nona Lee Bell Adams on June 19, 1991; by brothers, Wesley Jackson Adams, and Robert Allen Adams; sisters, Nancy Bowers, and Nellie Arthur; and by son-in-law, Lester Hulin. Left to cherish his memory are his son, James Lee Adams (Janet) of Denton; daughters, Teresa Elaine Surratt (Jerry) of Lexington and Debora Jean Hulin of Denton, 5 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Vaughn Adams of Thomasville; sisters, Maydene Adams Segrest of Raleigh, and Patricia Ann Lassiter of Archdale. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence on Frank Rd.
