We are sad to announce the passing of our mother, Gail Greene Gallimore, on January 19th, 2024 at Penick Village in Southern Pines. Gail was born on July 13th, 1934 to Clyde Herman and Lillie Sasser Greene of Candor, NC. She attended Candor School for 12 years and married her high school sweetheart, William Carl Gallimore of the Windblow Community on November 12th, 1955. They raised three daughters, Lisa, Lori and Joan on the family farm. When the kids grew and began their life journeys, Gail worked various jobs including Blake’s Restaurant, Russell Hosiery, United Mill, N.C. State Research Station, Gallimore Farm office, Shana Mills, and the Fabric Shop. Gail’s hobbies included genealogy (some works published), sewing, crafts, and traveling to all 50 states and all 100 counties of North Carolina. Gail was a member of the Candor Presbyterian Church and the Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church. She held several offices in the Presbyterian Women. Gail served on the Derby Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors for 20 years.
Gail was a talented problem solver with immeasurable wisdom. She felt great pride in the education of her daughters. Because of her own ability to learn and pass it on, it was once said "who needs Google when you have Gail"? Her sense of humor and wit were delightful.
Gail loved her daughter's spouses, her lifelong friends and her church family. She continued to make friends with devoted caregivers as her health declined.
Gail was predeceased by her parents Clyde and Lillie, one brother Larry, and her husband Carl. She is survived by her daughters: Lisa (Peter), Lori (Rick), Joan (J.R.), her sister Sandra and her sister-in-laws Pearl Gallimore and Kathy Greene.
A Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Elizabeth Forester officiating. Inurnment Services will be private.
Memorials may be made to the Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery at P.O. Box 7, Jackson Springs, NC 27281.
