Evelyn Lewis

Evelyn Murphy Lewis, 84, formerly of Piedmont School Rd., Denton, NC passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Mountain Vista Health Park.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel conducted by Rev. Flynn Richardson.

Evelyn was born on May 10, 1939, in Yancey County, NC, the daughter of Troy Murphy and Bernice Bennett Murphy. Following high school, Evelyn went to receive her bachelor’s degree from High Point College, then went on to teach math and science for many years at Denton School and South Davidson Middle School. As a pastor’s wife Evelyn was very active in the churches that her husband served.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Billie Edward Lewis, Sr., brother, Reece Murphy, and daughter-in-law, Sandy Lewis.

Left to cherish her memory are son, Billy E. Lewis, Jr. of Denton; daughter, Leigh Lewis Williams  of Denton ; sister, Maude Snider; 4 grandchildren, Chris Williams (Lexi), Katie Williams, Ethan Amstutz, and Ashley Amstutz; great-grandchildren, Ezekiel Williams

The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2: 00 PM Saturday prior to the service at Briggs Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son Bill Lewis, Jr..
