Mrs. Evelyn Goodwin Cook, age 84 of Farmer Road, Denton, NC died Monday, October 1 at the residence of her daughter. Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Central United Methodist Church in Denton with Rev. Benny Clodfelter and Rev. Joe Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Denton Town Cemetery. Mrs. Cook was born January 8, 1923 in Jasper, Tennessee to William Lewis and Ella Mae Denson Goodwin. She retired from Bisher Hosiery Mill after forty years and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Mrs. Cook was also a graduate of Denton High School. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Cook who died in November 1990 and a brother Wilford Goodwin who died in May 1991. Mrs. Cook is survived by a son Larry Cook and wife LaRue of Denton; a daughter Jan Cole and husband Allen of Lexington; two grandchildren, Lavonda Cook Loflin and husband Phil and Paul Cole, III and fiancé Jenny; two great grandchildren Savannah Cole and Jake Loflin; and two sisters Margaret Slack of Denton and Mary Louise “Jiggs” Little of Locust. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 3 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home of the son Larry Cook on Eastside Drive in Denton.
