Emma Jean Hughes Saunders, 83, of Denton, NC, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Brookstone Retirement Center in Lexington. Born on November 28, 1941, in Randolph County, Emma was the daughter of Felix Hughes, Sr. and Susie Mae Hughes.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 3, at Siloam Church Cemetery with Rev. Gary Bragg officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 PM at Briggs Funeral Home on Tuesday prior to the service.
Emma was retired from Moll Industries in Seagrove and had previously worked for Burlington Industries in Denton. She was of the Baptist faith. Working in her flowers, gardening, and fishing were her favorite hobbies, and she was also a big fan of NASCAR.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Eugene Hughes, Homer Hughes, Felix Hughes, Jr., and Billy Ray Hughes; sisters, Vaden Surratt, Louise Smith, and Mary Belle Morgan; and a special friend, Perry Surratt.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Shelia Branson and her husband Roger; sister, Verna Richburg and her husband Don; grandsons, Aaron Branson and Roger Lee Branson and his wife Alice; and great-grandsons, Roger Lee Branson, Jr. and Cody Branson.
