HUNTERSVILLE- Elma Hunsucker Thomas, 102, of Huntersville, formerly of Jackson Springs, NC died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Olde Knox Commons in Huntersville. Funeral Service will be 12:00 noon, Monday, January 7, 2013 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius. Burial will be in the Candor Cemetery in Candor, NC at 3:30 PM Monday. Mrs. Thomas was born April 13, 1910 in Montgomery County. She was one of 12 children born to William Austin Hunsucker and Dorothy Jane Dennis Hunsucker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Arlie Thomas and a son, Bobby Thomas. Elma loved everyone, she saw beauty in everyone and everything. She loved clothes, jewelry and always wanted to look her best. Everyone who knew her seemed to love her. She was a sweet, elegant, Christian lady. Elma was the oldest member of Center Baptist Church in Candor, where she taught Sunday School and played the organ for many years. She is survived by a son, Billy Thomas and wife Ruth of Denver, NC; a daughter, Brenda Thomas Scott and husband David of Huntersville; a daughter-in-law, Lena Thomas of Tallahassee, FL; Seven grandchildren, Debby Thomas Blessing, Danny, Brian, Mike and Todd Thomas, Jeff Scott and Billie Kerr; ten great-grandchildren, Chet, Sierra, Rachel, Kris, Alexandra, Jacquelyn, Danielle, Morgan, Jacob and Landon. The family will receive friends from 11AM to 12 Noon prior to the service Monday at the church. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Olde Knox Commons for the excellent care and love that they gave to her during the 20 months she was there. We are very grateful to all of them. Memorials may be made to Center Baptist Church, 112 Center Church Rd., Candor NC 27229 or to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 19600 Zion Ave., Cornelius NC 28031. Briggs-Candor Funeral Home in Candor, NC is serving the family of Mrs. Thomas.
