Mr. Elbert Johnson Strickland age 77 of Varner St. Denton, NC died Monday, December 7, 2015 at VA Medical Center, Liberty Lane Hospice House in Salisbury, NC with Tammy, Greg, and Roland as his constant companions at his side. A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015 at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Oak Ridge, TN. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton, NC. Mr. Strickland was born September 2, 1938 in Columbus County, NC to Jefferson “Jeff” Strickland and Derotha Hayes Strickland. He was a veteran of the US Army with a rank of 3rd Army US Specialist 4th Class. In addition to his parents Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Strickland and son, Dewayne Strickland. Surviving are son, Greg Strickland (Barbara) of Hickory, NC; daughters, Tammy Rector (Robert) of Rutherford College, NC and Brandy Strickland of Denton, NC; brothers, Gary Strickland and Roland Strickland both of Denton; sisters, Julia “Judy” Haynie and EthelLynn Nobles of Lexington; grandchildren, Sara Hudson, Kayla Willis, Ryan Strickland, Kyle Childers, Lucas Rector, Michael Robertson, and Brandon Robertson; great grandson, Cooper Hudson.
