Candor, NC-Edsel M. "Dick" Huffstetler, Jr. Edsel M. Huffstetler, Jr. of E. Main St., Candor, NC, died on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007. Family visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 6:00 8:00 PM at Briggs-Candor funeral home. Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 PM at Ellerbe Town Cemetery, Ellerbe, NC, with the Rev. Dr. Jesse Bledsoe officiating. Dick, the name by which he was commonly called, was born on July 8, 1943 in Charlotte, NC, The first-born of the Rev. Edsel and Mildred Helms Huffstetler. He had his father’s name and his Grandfather Huffstetler’s nick name. He is survived by his parents and a sister, Karen Huffstetler Parsons, of Candor; two nieces, Anne Parsons Wood and husband Ricky, and Sharon Parsons Tarlton and husband Tommy; two grand nephews, Daniel Wood and Addison Tarlton; and two grand nieces, Amanda Wood and Kennedy Rae Tarlton. Dick attended the public schools of Clinton, SC, Decatur and Barnesville, GA., Chester, SC, and Ellerbe, NC. He graduated from Ellerbe High School in 1962 and attended one year at Montreat College in Montreat, NC. For most of his working years he engaged in construction work, with roofing as his specialty. Because of poor health, Dick retired early from his last job as a custodian for Montgomery County. In more recent years Dick acquired from his friends and associates the name “cowboy” which he liked very much. To enhance the name he wore cowboy boots and hat as daily attire. Dick was a lover of dogs and horses and over the years he owned some fine specimens of both animals. He enjoyed riding with different groups in the county and in town parades. His family and many friends shall miss him deeply.
