Edith Sigmon

Edith Pauline Sigmon, daughter of George William Sigmon and Mattie Ann Brown Sigmon was born on March 22, 1920, and celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday, March 22, 2020. She passed away January 19, 2021. She was married to Paul L. Sigmon for 66 years and reared one child, William Craig Sigmon of Denton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Rosalie Sigmon, Renabell Stewart, and Elizabeth Wagner; 3 brothers, Marvin, Guy, and Coyte Sigmon. Upon the death of her husband, she moved to Denton to live out her life. She lived at Mountain Vista Health Park for 13 years. She held a CNA degree through Catawba Community College. She also obtained a degree in cosmotology and taught cosmotology for several years in Conover, NC. Having retired from that duty, she opened her own shop in Catawba, working as a public hairdresser for about 30 years. She was a life-long member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Catawba, and the oldest member at the time of her death. She held every office in her church. She was the first counselor to serve at Camp Lynn Haven from her church, taught Sunday School, was in the altar guild, and chairperson of LWML. Edith leaves behind her son, 3 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 1 step-great-grandchild, 5 great-great-grandchildren; and 11 godchildren. She will lie in state from 1:15 -1:45 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 23. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, at Providence Memorial Cemetery, Hwy. 10, Catawba, NC, with Reverend David Moser officiating. You may remain in your cars at graveside. If you choose to get out of your cars, masks and social distancing will be required. The family will remain at a distance. The family wants to extend a special thank you to Joni Martin and the staff at Mountain Vista Health Park for their loving care, along with her many friends that faithfully visited her. The Sigmon family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Conover, NC.
