Denton-Dorothy Newsom Carrick Dorothy “Dot” Newsom Carrick, age 82 of Newsom Lane, Denton died Tuesday, April 8 at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, April 11 at Summerville Baptist Church with Rev. Tom McLean, Rev. Mike Motley and Rev. James Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Carrick was born March 24, 1926 in Davidson County to Everette Lonnie and Glay Owens Newsom. She was an active member of Summerville Baptist Church and was a member of Healing Springs Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She had worked at Surratt Hosiery and retired from Burlington Industries. Mrs. Carrick was preceded in death by a brother Donald Newsom and sisters, Essie Mae Parker, Nellie Daniels and Josephine Woodle. Mrs. Carrick is survived by her husband Charlie Clifton “Cliff” Carrick of the home, sons Mike Carrick and wife Carla and Tommy Carrick and wife Donna of Denton, sister, Louise Hartley and husband Bryce of Denton and grandchildren, Casey, Kenny and Sarah Carrick and step-grandchild, Matthew Decker. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home on Newsom Lane.
