Dorothy Loflin Skeen, 92, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2022, following a recent period of declining health. She was a resident of Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton, North Carolina and previously resided at 4062 Handy Road.
Born on December 2, 1929, in Davidson County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Allen Leon Loflin and Maggie Reid Loflin. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Robert Donald Loflin and Billy Madison Loflin; and her sisters: Betty Loflin Snider and Janet Loflin Nance.
Dorothy married Herbert Donald Skeen on November 25, 1950. They shared 42 contented years together before his passing in January of 1993. During that time, they raised two sons. Together, they weathered Herbert’s health crisis in his early forties. Dorothy not only served as his nurse, but also operated a kidney dialysis machine at home prior to his successful kidney transplant.
While raising a family, Dorothy was active in Lineberry United Methodist Church, assisting with Sunday School and Bible School. She had a determined work ethic and balanced her responsibilities at home with working in local textile mills in Denton and Asheboro.
Dorothy was selfless and kind in her love for family. Her personality was calm and peaceful. She had a wonderful smile that was most evident when reading books with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Skeen is survived by her two sons, Ricky Leon Skeen of Denton, and Donald Clark Skeen (Nancy) of Burlington.
She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jason Skeen, (Amanda), daughters Maggie and Charlotte; Nathan Skeen, (Jessica), daughter Angel, sons Jacob, Caleb, and Evan; Katherine Peele, (Russell), sons Lawton and Reid; and Matthew Skeen (fiancé Rushi).
The family expresses appreciation to the caring staff of Mountain Vista Health Park, who enriched her final years. Also, gratitude to Hospice of Davidson County who provided comfort in her last days.
Visitation for friends and family will be conducted in the fellowship hall of Lineberry Church at 2559 Handy Road from 1 – 2 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2022. The funeral service will be held in the church sanctuary at 2 p.m.
