Dorothy Glover Parnell, aged 94, of Denton, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the home of her daughter in Lexington, North Carolina. Born on August 15, 1931, in Davidson County, she was the cherished daughter of Shafter Glover and Mattie Harrison Glover.
Dorothy’s life journey was marked by her devoted work in the hosiery mill industry, where she lent her skill and dedication as a knitter at various hosiery mills including, Bill's Hosiery Mill and Bisher Hosiery Mill. Beyond her professional pursuits, Dorothy cultivated a rich array of hobbies and interests, which included gardening, quilting, and crocheting. She was particularly known for her culinary talents, delighting family and friends with her delicious cakes and especially her beloved homemade biscuits, which were a staple at family gatherings.
Dorothy's legacy continues through her loving family. She is survived by her son, Edward Parnell and his wife Shryl; her daughter, Donna Hedrick and her husband Scott; her brother, James Loflin; as well as her cherished grandchildren Victoria Faith Fleming (Jake), Bradley Scott Hedrick (Konnie), and Jessica Ashley Hedrick (Raine). Adding to the joy of her family is her great-grandchild, Gracie Ann Fleming.
Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, R. Philip Parnell, and her parents, Shafter and Mattie Glover.
Her life will be celebrated with a visitation on Sunday, Feb. 8, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, Feb. 9, at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel officiated by Rev. Toney Parsons. Interment will follow at Denton Town Cemetery. At other times the family will be at the home of Edward and Shryl Parnell.
Dorothy Glover Parnell will be profoundly missed by all who knew her, but her warmth, kindness, and talents will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
