Doris Holt Cook

Doris Holt Cook, 101, of Denton, NC passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at her residence.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Alleghany Global Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Frizzell and Rev. Richard Gould officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Doris was born February 11, 1923, in Montgomery County, to Ralph Holt and Letha Harris Holt. She graduated from Troy High School and was a longtime member of Alleghany Global Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. Everyone knew she was a wonderful cook; she was known for her delicious homemade biscuits. She loved family lunches every Sunday.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert R. Cook, her son, Larry Cook, and a grandson, Dennis Cook; brothers, Marvin, Beecher, and Curtis Holt; sisters, Bernice Luther and Iva Spivey.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Metts of Charlotte and Letha Thompson (John) of Albemarle; daughter in law, Phyllis Cook of Denton; 4 grandchildren, Darren Cook (Heather), Josh Metts (Deanna), Daniel Thompson (Marina), and Sarah Thompson; 11 great-grandchildren, Nicole Goodwin, William “Robby” Metts, Jessica Metts, Adam Metts, Xavier Thompson, Sebastien Thompson, Clemence Thompson, Olivia Clark, Brandon Cook, Lindsey Hatley, and Zac Cook; 1 great-great-son, Kylan Goodwin.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Alleghany Global Methodist Church prior to the service and other times at the residence.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Linda Smith for the excellent care and love she gave Doris, to CenterWell Home Health, especially Elaine and Chris, to her friends and neighbors, David and Becky Fine, Saundra Fine and family, Rhonda Doby for their love and kindness.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to South Davidson Family Resource Center 292 S. Main St. Denton, NC 27239.
