William Dalton Gallimore age 94, a resident of Haywood St., Denton passed away on Saturday, March 4 at NC State Veteran’s Home in Salisbury, NC. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 8 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel conducted by Elder Carlton Brown. Interment with military honors will follow in Denton Town Cemetery. Mr. Gallimore was born in Davidson County on May 1, 1922 to Alva and Maie Cranford Gallimore. Dalton was a graduate of Denton High School, and a former Davidson County Deputy Sheriff. He later worked at Burlington Industries Denton Plant. He attended Tom's Creek Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to his parents Dalton was preceded in death by brother, Odell Gallimore and sister, Frances Alvis. A US Army veteran during WWII serving in the Battles and Campaigns in Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea South Philippines, Luzon and the Invasion of Mandora Island, He received a Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal, with 4 Bronze Service Medals, Philippines Liberation Medal, with 2 Bronze Service Stars, WWII Victory Medal and 7 Battle Stars. He is survived by 4 daughters, Martha Hill and husband Kenneth of Lexington, Diane Snider of Denton, Judy Frank and husband Wayne of Denton, and Evelyn Gordon and husband Randy of Lexington; 2 sons, Tommy Gallimore and wife Elaine of Farmer Community and Alvin Gallimore and wife Angie of Denton; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 9 great great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home of Alvin Gallimore on Piedmont School Rd., Denton.
