Mr. Colon Albert Hughes, age 79, of Denton died Monday, December 19 at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton. Funeral service for Mr. Hughes will be 3:00 pm Wednesday, December 21 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Johnny Albertson officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Union Community Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:45 pm Wednesday, prior to the service, at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home on North Bingham Street, Denton. Mr. Hughes was born September 26, 1932 in Randolph County to Gurney and Bertha Hughes Hughes. He was an active member of Grubb’s Grove Original Church of God where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and superintendent. He had worked at Klopman Mill for 29 years. He was preceded in death by one son, Tony Ray Hughes on September 17, 1990. Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Grace Lee Hill Hughes of the home, two sons, Benny Thomas Hughes of Salisbury, Frank Odell Hughes of Denton, one daughter, Colleen Hughes Mazur of Salisbury, one sister, Lalar Grubb of Thomasville, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
