Candor NC-Colon Elwood Blake Colon Elwood Blake, 85 of 1575 Old Hwy 220 Candor, died Monday, February 18, 2008 at his residence. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Candor Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Edsel Huffstetler and Rev. Dena White officiating. Burial will follow in Candor Cemetery. Mr. Blake was born April 19, 1924 in Montgomery County, a son of the late Allen James and Anne Sasser Blake. He was a member of Candor Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an Elder and a Deacon. He served his country during World War II in the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division. Mr. Blake had served 3 terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1966 – 1972 representing Randolph and Montgomery Counties, was a trustee of Montgomery Community College and Montgomery Memorial Hospital, had sat on the East Montgomery School Advisory Board, McRae Industries Board of Directors, Candor Bank Board of Directors, and the North Carolina Banking Commission. He had also served as chairman of the Montgomery County Republicans, president of Montgomery Country Club, Past President and Lion of the Year of the Candor Lions Club, and a life member of the Elks Club in Southern Pines. For over 60 years he was the owner and operator of Blake’s Restaurant in Candor. His brothers and sister, June Blake, Abedee Blake and Hazeline Flowe, preceded him in death. Mr. Blake is survived by his wife of 60 years Inez Allen Blake of the home; his Sons and Daughters in law: Jimmy and Rebecca S. Blake of Biscoe, Tommy and Beth Blake of Candor, Gary and Rebecca B. Blake of Biscoe, Greg and Jill Blake of Biscoe, grandchildren, Chris and Barbie Blake, Jennifer and Henry Hoyos, Natalie Blake, Chesley and Laura Blake, Dusty and Amy Blake, Kristin Blake, Charles and Kelly Blake, Myranda Blake and Mallory Blake and one great grandchild, Blake Hoyos. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 PM Tuesday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home in Candor and other times at the residence on Old Hwy 220, Candor.
