Cletus Harrison Swaney, 89, of Pleasant Union Road, Trinity, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at Randolph Hospital. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Ray Swaney and the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville. He was a native of Randolph County, a farmer and a member of Pleasant Union Community Church. He was preceded in death by brothers, Paul, Baxter, and Glenn Swaney and sisters, Ruby Robbins and Blonzie Carter, Granddaughter Sherry Burnett and Great Granddaughter Julia Burnett. Surviving are wife, Alene Williams Swaney of the home; sons, Robert Swaney and wife Nancy and Richard Swaney and wife Linda, of Thomasville; daughter, Cleta Cranford and husband Del of New London; brothers, Roy Lee Swaney of Thomasville, Troy Swaney and Ray Swaney, both of Lexington and J.B. Swaney of Trinity; sisters, Edith Small of Asheboro and Ruth Ferguson of Liberty; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. The family will be at the funeral home, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C. 28607 or to donor’s choice.
