Mrs. Cleta Loflin Loftin, age 93 of Cook Road (Handy Hill Farm), Denton, NC died Sunday, January 11 at High Point Regional Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 13 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church on Loftin Road conducted by Rev. Steve McClain and Rev. Mike McClellan. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mrs. Loftin was born December 2, 1915 in Davidson County to James H. Loflin and Nannie Mae Taylor Loflin. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the Church. She was a 1936 graduate of Denton High School and retired from Burlington Industries, Denton Plant. She had taught Basket Weaving and Doll Making and was a member of the South Davidson Homemakers Club. She was known at the High Point Cancer Center as the “Hat Lady”. She was married to Howard K Loftin who died in 1998. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Lee Loftin in 1959, by a grandson, Randy Loftin, a great grandson, Christopher Vestal, a brother Marvin Loflin and a sister Jewel Reid. Mrs. Loftin is survived by sons, James Howard (Funny) Loftin and wife Elizabeth; Charles W. Loftin; and Vance S. Loftin and wife Priscilla all of Denton, by grandchildren, Gregory, Robyn and Jason Loftin; great grandchildren, Sarah and Jonathan Loftin; and great great grandchildren Dylan and Kaylon Vestal. She is also survived by sister-in-laws, Jewel Spell and Truby Loflin both of Denton; and a special friend, Laurene Loflin of Denton. The family will see friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at Briggs Funeral Home and other times at the residence on Cook Road.
