Clegg Covington

Mr. James Clegg Covington, age 89 of South Main Street Extension, Denton, NC died Friday, June 18 at his residence A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 21 at First United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Bill Foust. Burial with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Mr. Covington was born August 21, 1920 in Stanly County to Luther Clayton Covington and Cora Eunice Haire Covington. He was a retired supervisor with Thornton Knitting Company and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the Woodmen of the World Denton Chapter. He was married to Josephine Everhart Covington who died November 17, 2009. He was also preceded in death by a sister Margaret Lanning and by brothers, Lenn Covington and Harold Covington. He is survived by sons, James Clayton Covington and wife Polly of Asheboro and Gary Steven Covington and wife Faye of Lexington, by a daughter Barbara Ann Wilson and husband Walter of Lexington; by a brother Ray Covington of Denton; granddaughter Toni Ayers and 3 great grandchildren. The family will see friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton.
