Clara Loflin Russell, age 74, of Denton died Wednesday, December 31 at Stanly Manor in Albemarle following a lengthy illness. Service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 2 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Smith and Rev. Derald Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Russell was born July 17, 1934 in Davidson County to Thomas and Georgia Vida Harris Loflin. She had worked at Surratt Hosiery and was an active member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Reece Smith Sunday School class. She was preceded in death by her husband James Cleo Russell who died June 17, 1997. Mrs. Russell is survived by two sons, Michael Russell and Tommy Russell, both of Denton , one grandson, Landon Russell, and two sisters, Elwanda Cook of Charlotte and Lorraine Gibson of Summerville, South Carolina. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home of the son Tommy on Jim Elliott Road.
