Charles Watson Carter, 91, of Center Baptist Church Rd., Jackson Springs, died Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living in Candor. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Jarman officiating. Burial will follow in Stanly Memorial Gardens in Albemarle at 1:00 PM. Born on September 7, 1920 in Cumberland County, he was the son of John William and Mamie Johnson Carter. He was a maintenance worker, a member of the DAV, Chapter 12 and a Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by 2 sons, Charles Carter of Mt. Gilead and James Phillip Carter of Star; 2 daughters, Ramona Sorenson of Biscoe and Cynthia Hussey of Robbins; a half-brother, David Carter of Parkton and a half-sister, Dorothy Jackson of Parkton; 11 Grandchildren; 38 Great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home and other times at the home of Ramona Sorenson, 426 Church St., Biscoe.
