Carrie Beck Jollie

November 1, 1951 — December 3, 2023

On December 3, 2023, Mrs. Carrie Elaine Beck Jollie left this world peacefully while at home with her husband and youngest son by her side. Carrie was a spirited woman who loved nothing more than the family that she made with her husband of 55 years, Allan Wayne Jollie. She loved the adventures that Wayne took her on, and the new things she experienced with him. Whether it was cotton plants, sour grass, shells on tree limbs, or historical sites, their first years of marriage were filled with simple things that were new and fascinating to her. Wayne took her to the beach for the first time early in their marriage. She fell in love with the ocean and all things nautical, especially flip flops and lighthouses. Some of her fondest memories were of trips with her family to Emerald Isle and Carolina Beach.

Carrie was known in Thomasville, where she lived most of her life, for working for her mother driving a catering truck. She did this while maintaining a home and parenting her four children. After her mother retired from the catering business, Carrie went to work at Food Lion where she worked in the bakery until her retirement. She was an excellent cook, often feeding her family and others in the neighborhood, especially after church on Sundays. Her specialties were meatloaf, potato salad, Watergate salad, and icebox cake.

Carrie had the singing voice of an angel. She spent many years as a vocalist for the gospel group, The Pathway Trio. She and her family sang together throughout her life. There is no doubt that she is harmonizing in an angel choir now.

Carrie’s love for her family was her driving force. Along with her husband, Wayne, she is survived by their four children: David Jollie of Thomasville, Amy Jollie Bodenheimer of Thomasville, Brandon Jollie of Denton, and Joel Jollie of Denton. She also had many grandchildren: Kelle, Andrew, Daxton, Lindsay, Courtney, Fredrick, Amber, Johnathan, Morgan, Madison, Cameron, Taylor, Maison, and Joseph. She was excitedly awaiting the arrival of her great-grand baby, Ellie. Also surviving are brothers Carl Beck (Jackie) and Allen Beck, and several nieces and nephews.

Carrie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Earlie and Carrie Yates, who raised her and held a huge place in her heart; her parents, Carl Beck and Dorothy Brown; mother-in-law Ruth Jollie; and infant grandson Joshua Jollie.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, Dec. 10, at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Roger Carmichael officiating. Interment will follow at Community Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence on Newsom Ave.
