Mr. Burnice Lindsay Owen, age 85 of Flat Swamp Road, Denton, NC died Thursday, September 23 at High Point Regional Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 27 at Summerville Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tom McLean and Rev. Mike Motley. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times will be at the residence on Flat Swamp Road. Mr. Owen was born December 30, 1924 in Davidson County to James Earlie Owen and Lillie Bean Owen. He was a member of Summerville Baptist Church and was a retired Supervisor with Lexington Furniture Industries, Link-Taylor Plant where he was employed for 30 years. His friends and co-workers called him “Red” as a nickname. He entered the US Army on August 19, 1944. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC and Camp Croft, SC, and served in England, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Czechoslovakia. He was awarded the BSM, G, Comd, M., and BS. He attended Denton High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by sisters Thelma Daniel and Minnie Bivens and by a brother William Owen. He is survived by his wife, Merle Hunt Owen of the home; sons David Owen and wife Donna of Southmont, Chris Owen and friend Sherry Poole of Denton; daughters, Sharon Bean and husband Tony and Donna Cottrell and husband Ernest all of Denton. A brother Lois Owen of Clarkton, Tenn; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. Sister-in-law, Betty Hunt Gallimore of Southmont and Robert Hunt and wife Doris of Lexington. Burnice was loved dearly and very much enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed doing woodcrafts and working in his garden.
